What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site work properly, remember your preferences, and give the site owner useful, anonymous information about how visitors use the site.

How we use cookies

We use cookies in three categories:

  • Necessary cookies: these are essential for the site to function. They keep the contact form secure and make sure basic features work as expected. You cannot turn these off.
  • Performance and analytics cookies: these help us understand how visitors move around the site: which pages are most popular, for instance, and how people found us. We use Google Analytics for this. The data is aggregated and not used to identify you personally.
  • Advertising cookies: these measure our ad campaigns and let platforms like Google Ads show you Writefully So ads elsewhere on the web. They are switched off unless you turn them on, and they stay off if you leave them off, both now and in the future.

What if you reject cookies?

If you reject or limit cookies, Google Analytics stays off and no analytics or advertising cookies are set. One thing to know: even then, we still keep basic, cookie-free visit counts, such as how many people viewed a page, roughly where they are, and what device they use. Our hosting platform collects these without cookies, it stores nothing that identifies you personally, and the numbers only ever appear as totals.

Third-party cookies

We work with a small number of trusted services that may set cookies:

  • Google Ads: if you allow advertising cookies, Google may measure which ads brought you here and show you our ads on other sites. With advertising switched off, we send Google a signal that no advertising data may be stored.
  • Google Analytics: collects anonymized traffic data such as pages visited, time on site, and approximate location. See Google's Privacy Policy for more details.
  • LinkedIn / Calendly: if you click through to LinkedIn or book a call via Calendly, those services may set their own cookies under their own policies.

You can also manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse all cookies or only third-party cookies. Keep in mind that blocking necessary cookies may affect how the site works.
