Welcome to Issue №4
This season’s guests could be next year’s direct bookings.
Hey there, the guests checking in right now aren’t just this month’s
revenue. Handled right, a good number of them book directly with you next year instead of going
back through an OTA. This issue is about making that happen.
|
Quick Win
5 ways to turn this season’s guests into repeat direct bookers.
Handled right, the guests checking in this month become next year’s direct bookings —
not OTA repeats. Five small moves that compound.
|
i.
Make your Houfy info impossible to miss.
A QR code in the welcome book is a good start, but the hosts who get the most rebookings
put it in more than one place: a fridge magnet, a sign by the door, next to the WiFi code.
The easier it is to find, the more likely a guest is to come back to it.
|
|
|
ii.
Say the savings out loud.
“I’m also on Houfy” is forgettable. “Book direct next time and
skip the service fee” is not. Guests remember a specific number, not a vague
mention.
|
|
|
iii.
Offer a small return-guest discount — and mention it before they leave.
A discount a guest hears about at checkout sticks. One buried in a follow-up email six
months later usually doesn’t.
|
|
|
iv.
Follow up after checkout.
A short thank-you message with your Houfy link, sent a day or two after they leave,
outperforms silence. It’s also easy to automate and forget about.
|
|
|
v.
Ask for the rebooking, not just the review.
Reviews build trust for future guests. A direct “we’d love to have you back,
here’s how” is what brings this one back.

Host Spotlight
Meet Becky, the host turning one cottage into three.
A teacher who rented out one cottage to help fund her retirement — and ended up designing
and building her own lighthouse cottage on the Bay of Fundy.

Becky started with one cottage and a simple plan: rent it out and let it pay for itself
before she retired from teaching. Six years later, she’s expanded into the property
next door and designed and built her own lighthouse cottage from the ground up.

“Direct booking is scary to me, but there’s security in knowing Houfy Protect is added
to the bookings. Guests prefer to book directly and see all the fees stay in the community. It
takes time for direct bookings to roll in, but it will happen.”

Becky’s Playbook
A QR code to Houfy on an electronic picture frame in each cottage. The same link on her website,
her social media, and in her guidebook. No single channel carries the weight — the link
just needs to be wherever a guest happens to be looking.

From the Community
Direct bookings, three different ways.
One host in our Facebook group posted this last week:
“I have a guest returning in July for 9 days; this will be their 3rd stay. Another guest
is coming back in July for their 2nd stay. And a third is returning in July for their 11th stay
in 2 years. All of my bookings in July are direct bookings.”
That’s not luck. That’s what happens when the small stuff — the QR codes, the
follow-ups, the discounts — starts compounding.
